A Collective Makeup Haul

It was my 23rd birthday just over a week ago and I have since accumulated a few new makeup products to add to my ever growing collection. Some products I have were gifted for my birthday and some were bought with my birthday money or my own. I guess you could say this is more of a birthday haul but without the added extras such as the homeware, chocolate and clothing I received. Who wants to see all of that when there's so much beauty to be seen? Literally.
A Collective Makeup Haul
I needed to repurchase a few favourites of mine after going without them for so long. I forgot how much I enjoyed using them and I am so glad I finally have them back in my collection. The first thing I picked up was the Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation which is one of my all time favourite drugstore foundations ever, literally! It's light-medium coverage, natural and it doesn't cake. I've been through so many bottles of it. The other repurchases I made were concealers, the Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer and Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer. I lost my Bourjois concealer a few months ago and I haven't been able to find it since, I was so gutted. It is the perfect under eye concealer, it brightens whilst still hydrating my under eye area and it doesn't crease which is a huge thing for me as some drugstore concealers I've tried before does just that. As for the Lasting Perfection Concealer it is my favourite for covering up any blemishes or acne scarring I may have. It's super inexpensive too!

Now onto all the new goodies! This is all so exciting for me as I have been meaning to pick some of these products up for quite some time. Let's just start with the highlighters shall we? I bought a shed load of them. I just cannot resist, they're my favourite makeup product to buy. I bought two shades of the MUA Undress Your Skin Highlighting Powders in Iridescent Gold and Pink Shimmer. They were both just £3 each and so pigmented! I am yet to try them but I hope they translate as well on the face as they do when swatched. Another drugstore highlighter that Josh kindly bought me for my birthday is the Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighter in Rose Gold Lights. It is unlike any highlighter that I have in my collection right now which makes it all the more appealing and it is such a gorgeous shade too.

This year I was determined to look more into Laura Geller makeup and so I decided to pick up the Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator in Charming Pink which appears to be a lovely subtle pink. I had £10 worth of points on my Debenhams beauty card and it was discounted too so I managed to get it for just £8.90. How good is that? Such a great bargain. The last glow giving product I picked up was the Jouer Powder Highlighter in Rose Quartz which came as part of my Cult Beauty order. I was so indecisive about what shade highlighter I wanted, Citrine or Rose Quartz but I decided upon the latter. I've used it just the once so far and my god I'm impressed. It's so so beautiful, it's lightweight and blends in seamlessly. I'm looking forward to adding Citrine to my collection soon.

As I mentioned I made a cheeky Cult Beauty order with some birthday money and I happened to add some more Jouer products into my basket, lip products in particular. The Jouer Long-Wear Lip Topper in Skinnydip was on the top of my list straightaway. I've used it just the once and I can already tell I am going to use it to death this Spring. It adds the prettiest sheen to my lips and makes them look somewhat plump too which I love. The other is the Jouer Long-Wear Lip Cream in Dulce de Leche. It's a beautiful nude pink and I've worn it just the once too but combined with the Lip Topper. I'm not sure what to think about it right now, particularly as it wore off quite quickly after just eating a bacon bap. I will give it a go on it's own and see how it fares. The last thing I picked up from Cult Beauty is the Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick in Bitch Perfect. It's my first CT lipstick and I am still yet to try it. I can't bring myself to use it just yet.

A foundation that I have been meaning to try since it's release is the Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless Foundation. They have added some new shades to the range recently and I must've swatched five of the lighter shades until I found the right one for me, Warm Ivory. I used it just the other day and I honestly feel like it's going to become a new favourite of mine. It has a nice coverage, it's the perfect shade and it has a wonderful matte finish. I adore it! Another product that Josh bought me for my birthday is the Makeup Revolution Pro Fix Makeup Fixing Spray. I recently ran out of the Oil Control version and loved it but I wanted to try something new. And finally the last thing I picked up was the Rimmel The Only 1 Matte Lipstick in Salute which is yet another nude. I just can't resist a nude lipstick okay? They're my weakness. The formula is so creamy and smooth. I have since bought two more shades as I love how they feel on the lips.

That's pretty much everything I bought or received for my birthday. I am so excited to try out the products I haven't already. I will undoubtedly update you all on my thoughts on some of the products in the near future. Just let me know what you'd like to know more about!

Have you purchased anything exciting lately?

Rimmel Brow Shake Filling Powders | Review and Swatches

If you've read my recent eyebrow routine(here) you may be able to tell that I am not basic when it comes to my brows. I am super fussy and like to make sure they are absolutely perfectly defined before I apply the rest of my makeup. The trouble is though I have to use three products to do so! Yes, sometimes that can feel like a chore but it's what I like. I rarely ever change up my brow routine but for the last few weeks I have been trying out some new brow products, the Rimmel Brow Shake Filling Powders. I haven't used a brow product from Rimmel since I was around 15 when I filled my brows in with their Brow Pencil but obviously since then the whole entire brow game has completely changed.

The Rimmel Brow Shake Filling Powders are quite simply loose brow powders within what looks quite similar to their exagerrate liner packaging. The pots have to be shaken before application in order to get enough powder onto the applicator provided inside to fill in the brows. The applicator is a soft sponge which appears to be a little too thick for me to actually define the brows thoroughly. It's just not very precise. Due to that I prefer to outline and fill my brows using my ABH dipbrow pomade first of all and then fill in any sparse areas using the Brow Shake Filling Powder from the beginning of my brows and outwards. The powder is ever so soft and fine that it seems to kick up a bit of a mess when in use so I make sure to tap off any excess on the applicator before I use it.

There are four different shades in the range, Blonde, Medium Brown, Dark Brown and Black. I have been using the shade Medium Brown which is the closest match to my hair and brows. Unfortunately it is warm toned rather than cool toned which is a disappointment as an ashy shade would've matched me so much better. In fact I'd say that all of the shades in the range are currently warmer tones which is a shame as I would've liked to see more variety. I hope that Rimmel decide to add some new shades to the range in the future so there's more choice.

Admittedly the Brow Shake Filling Powders can be seen as a bit of a faff as they don't exactly do the job that they claim to do. Granted they fill and enhance the brows wonderfully but the sponge applicator makes it so difficult to define and shape them. I'd say they are much more suited towards filling rather than actually defining them. It would've been much easier if the applicator was an angled brush as it would give you more precision. Thankfully I haven't found any problems in terms of longevity. The powders have stayed put throughout the wind, rain etc, without any fading. If you're perhaps looking for a brow product that will give you intense, full brows in seconds and lasts throughout the day then this may just be for you.
Rimmel Brow Shake Filling Powder Swatches
Overall, I personally enjoy using the brow shake powders for filling rather than using it as a 'whole'. I have found it is what works best for me. You never know though, you may feel entirely different. It's just what I've found from my experience.

The Rimmel Brow Shake Filling Powders are priced at £5.99 in Boots and Superdrug now which is well priced compared to other brow products on the market at the moment. If you're interested in giving them a go I suggest you give them a swatch before you buy.

New In Beauty | Maybelline Spring Launches and First Impressions

A few weeks ago I got yet another exciting parcel through the door from Maybelline with all their fabulous new Spring launches. Maybelline is one of my favourite drugstore brands and they always seem to surprise me with their new and innovative products. You may have already spotted a few of the new releases in your local Boots or Superdrug as of late but I thought I'd get you up to speed with them anyhow.
Maybelline Spring Launches and First Impressions
Let's talk palettes first of all. There are two new palettes, the Color Drama Lip Contour Palette(£9.99) and Master Camo Corrector Palette(£9.99). The Colour Drama Lip Contour Palette includes a lip primer, three lip liners, three lip colours and a highlight along with a handy lip brush. As you can tell there are four different steps to contouring your lips, prime, line, fill and highlight. I have the Crimson Vixen palette which is quite a bold, vampy option as opposed to the Blushed Bombshell palette which is more of a play safe, subtle palette with various shades of pink. It's travel friendly and certainly handy to have if you're struggling with lip options.

As for the Master Camo Palette, I knew this was on it's way to UK shores. I have had my eye on it ever since I spotted it on Maybellines Instagram a few months ago. It's available in a variety of three shades, Light, Medium and Dark to suit different skin tones. I have the Light palette which includes two corrector shades, two concealers and two highlighters. It also has a little brush with it too but I find it to be a bit useless. The overall idea is to use the green corrector to counteract redness and even out the skin tone, the yellow to correct dark circles, the concealer to conceal imperfections and then finish off with the highlighter on the highest points of your cheekbones and cupids bow. I find myself using it a lot when I am doing a pretty quick and simple makeup look as I have all the base products I need in one kit, with the exception of foundation.

For the eyes, there is another new mascara, The Falsies Push Up Angel Mascara(£7.99). I know we're only in March but it's become a staple within my routine ever since I received it. It has a curved, spiky wand which makes it super easy to separate and lift the lashes, delivering a soft fluttery look. It works so well on the bottom lashes as well as the top which is a huge plus too as some mascaras can be relatively difficult to manouvre along the bottom lashes without making a mess

Now finally onto the lips. There is actually quite a few new lip launches this Spring. First up are the Color Sensational Shaping Lip Liners(£3.99) which are said to be completely budge-proof and long lasting. Rather than your basic pencil lip liners these have a twist-up mechanism which I find to be much easier to line the lips as they glide onto the lips rather than tug. They have a lovely creamy finish to them too. As far as I can tell there are a total of 13 different shades in the range, including one that's clear. I have the shade Palest Pink which I find to be a strange name for a colour that appears to be more of a medium pink. With a shade name like that I'd expect it to be more of a baby pink shade, but that aside I absolutely love it, and I shall be buying some more colours from the range soon.

Maybelline have also launched another lipstick range called the Inti-Matte Nudes Lipsticks(£6.99) which are part of the Color Sensational Creamy Mattes Collection. I am currently unsure as to how many lipsticks are part of the Inti-Matte Nude range but I shall update you on that soon. I have the shade Purely Nude which is just way too light on my skin tone unfortunately but I absolutely love the formula of it. It's really creamy and comfortable on the lips but if you have dry lips I suggest you use a lip scrub and balm first as they can accentuate the dryness which just isn't such a pretty look.

There is also the Superstay 24hr Dual Ended Lip Colors(£8.99). They have been on Maybelline stands worldwide for what feels like years but I have just not seen the appeal, even when the liquid lipstick trend picked up. This Spring they have launched new Super Impact Colours which quite frankly pack a good ol' punch of colour. I have two shades, Pink Goes On and Eternal Cherry. Pink Goes On is a bright fuschia and Eternal Cherry is a Cherry Red. You apply the liquid lip colour first of all and then once it's dried you switch to the other side and apply the balm to seal it in. They leave my lips feeling lovely and soft throughout the day without any sign of fading or crumbling. I wish I hadn't dismissed them in the beginning.

Last but not least are the Baby Lips Color Balm Crayons(£5.99). You may have spotted these in your local Boots already. They seem to be going down a storm with many people right now. They give the lips a sudden dose of hydration while adding a burst of colour to the lips, leaving a beautiful glossy finish behind. I have the colour Playful which is encased within the most vibrant purple packaging. As you can guess it is in fact a lovely bright purple which isn't the kind of shade I have in my lipstick collection, but it's sure a welcome addition.

So there we go, that's all the new launches that have arrived or are arriving this Spring from Maybelline. Which launch are you most excited about?
